Passion, pride and enthusiasm have all been felt this week in the Capital as part of the St David’s Day Festival and this theme will contiune on Friday, March 2, with the Night of the Dragons.
Professional boxing talant from across Wales will descend on Cardiff for a night of world class boxing. Taking place at the Motorpoint Arena, Wales’ own Robbie Turley will take on Scotland’s Gavin Reid for the Celtic Super-Bantaweight Title.
The event provides the opportunity for the city to showcase how it can host top class international boxing ahead of the WBC 2013 Boxing convetion that will be held in the city.
The convention will attract international boxers, promoters, managers, administrators of the sport, trainers, contenders, champions and former champions as well as up to 1000 delegates. As part of the event past and present boxing champions will also visit charities, local boxing gyms and community projects as well as launching a pilot ‘Sporting Chances’ project working with young offenders.
Executive Member for Transport and Economical Devleopment, Cllr Neil McEvoy, said: “Cardiff has proven time and time again that we can host all kinds of sporting events, from world class to grassroots.
“The city and Council have helped to support a whole host of sporting iniatatives over the past few years, from securing the WBC Convetion to creating Sport.Cardiff to help community sporting projects.
“I’m delighted that the Night of The Dragons will showcase some of Wales’ best and up and coming talent and it promises to be a night to remember.”
