Welsh for your family

When learning a language, it’s often easier the earlier you start.  If you want to support your young child’s education by learning Welsh, then a new course from Coleg Gwent’s Welsh for Adults Centre starting this September could give your family the benefits of a bilingual education.

Called Cymraeg o’r Crud, (Welsh from the Cradle), this course is intended for families with young children who want to have fun speaking and using Welsh together.  Classes will be starting throughout the region from Monday 13 September.

The launch event for the course, held at the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale earlier this month, was a great success with a taster session by local tutor Ffion Green and celebrations which featured S4C characters and live music.

Gwent’s Welsh for the Family Development Officer, Ffion Green, said: “We were delighted to announce the launch of this new course Cymraeg o’r Crud, and hope it will be very popular. The course is intended for families with babies and toddlers who want to learn to speak Welsh with their children. We aim to provide parents with the language skills they need to support young children who will go on to learn Welsh in school.”
