Welsh Government in talks with rail companies over the services for Wales-England match

Talks are being held with Network Rail and the rail companies to ensure sufficient capacity is available to take fans home after the Wales-England Six Nations clash in Cardiff next February, Plaid Cymru AM Chris Franks has been told.

The South Wales Central AM wrote to Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones because of his concerns over rail services after  the Friday night international.

Ieuan Wyn Jones said: “I agree with you that Arriva Trains Wales and First Great Western have enough time to prepare plans in advance of this match to manage the large number of passengers travelling by train after the game. My officials are already in discussions with Network Rail and the train companies to ensure that sufficient capacity is provided for this match. We will do whatever we can to assist them in this process.

“I was impressed by how ATW and FGW managed to take passengers home after the Wales-France game earlier this year with a similar late evening kick-off. I am confident they will be able to meet this challenge again.”

Chris Franks said: “I’m very pleased that the Welsh Government is holding discussions with the rail companies well ahead of the game. Plaid believes that a good service is available to take people home after the match finishes.”
