Welsh Government Money for Medical Centres

A Welsh Government improvement grant will improve the quality of service for patients in Taff’s Well and Caerphilly.

Cwm Taf University Local Health Board have submitted an application for improvement grant work at The Medical Centre, Taff’s Well and Castle View Surgery, Castle View Shopping Centre, Caerphilly.

Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales Central Chris Franks said: “This grant will be used to make improvements to surgeries in Taff’s Well and Caerphilly. The money will install a patient call system in the surgeries and ensure the practices comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. Since 2004 grants for improvements are held on an all-Wales level. The Plaid driven government has worked hard to protect the people of Wales from the Con-Dem axe. Plaid Cymru has secured a level of protection for community and secondary health care in the Welsh government’s budget.”

Improvement grants cover works between £1,000 and £300,000 (excluding VAT). Local Health Boards use their discretion in deciding the level of grant to be made available to GP practices. This will be between 33% and 66% of the cost of the works with the practice covering the remaining costs.

Fellow Plaid AM, Jocelyn Davies for South Wales East added: “Health, employment, and education is key to Wales’ future. The services provided by GPs are important, and I am sure in the future we will want to expand GP provision. As a party of government we are being responsible by investing in new services for patients. Plaid is committed to a NHS that is free at the point of delivery. Our actions in government have proven that. In government we have put a stop to the previous government’s disastrous hospital closure programme and we have ruled out the use of the Private Finance Initiative in the NHS. We will not let austerity beat our ambitions for Wales.”
