Welsh Government to Provide over £8m for Merged Emergency Services Centre in Wrexham

Welsh Government LogoAn innovative joint venture between the emergency services is moving forward in Wrexham thanks to substantial Welsh Government funding.

Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the £8.4m capital boost that will help deliver a combined Ambulance and Fire Service Resource Centre located near the Maelor Hospital at Croesnewydd Road.

The centre, costing £15m in total, aims to provide better facilities for staff and improved services for the public in and around Wrexham.

It is the first of its kind to be purpose built and will replace the existing fire station at Bradley Road in the town, as well as the existing ambulance stations in Wrexham and Chirk.

The multimillion pound centre will include a local community safety office and eight bays for fire engines, double the current capacity at the town centre fire station. Under the proposals there will also be state-of-the-art training facilities, as well as much improved ambulance accommodation.

Local AM Griffiths commented:

“I am very pleased the Welsh Government is investing a significant amount in the project and for their continued support in the region.”

“Just last year, the area around Croesnewydd Road benefited from Welsh Government funding as almost £2m was spent improving the surrounding infrastructure.”

“As this will be the first purpose built centre of its kind, it is exciting to see such an innovative development being constructed in Wrexham.”

“Working together in the new, modern and upgraded facility will ultimately result in the emergency departments providing a better, more efficient service for the people of Wrexham.”
