Welsh music award winners announced

The speculation and anticipation is finally over as BBC Radio Cymru reveals the winners of this year’s RAP Awards.

Last week saw brothers Richard and Wyn Jones, of Ail Symudiad, and Cardigan‘s Fflach Recording Studios winning the lifetime contribution to music award, and on April 8, the rest of the winners were revealed.

The main RAP Awards programme was broadcast live on Radio Cymru on Thursday 8 April, with C2 presenters Hefin Thomas and Magi Dodd. Huw Evans and Dyl Mei – who himself has won a handful of RAP awards in the past – offered an alternative programme on bbc.co.uk/radiocymru. During both programmes, Lisa Gwilym presented sessions by Mr Huw, Huw M and Fflur Dafydd, live from the BBC studios, in Bangor.

John Roberts, acting editor of Radio Cymru, said: “The BBC Radio Cymru RAP Award winners are voted for by the industry – musicians, record labels, broadcasters, press and promoters – so in one respect they carry more weight with artists. The standard of those shortlisted is very high this year and congratulations to all the winners.”
