What to watch: Only Boys Aloud

They’ve spent three months finding their voices, they’ve learned to sing in Welsh – not the first language of a good percentage of them – and they’ve been mastering tricky choreography. Now it’s time for Wales’ newest male voice choir Only Boys Aloud, launched in April and formed from scratch, to make its debut at the opening concert of the National Eisteddfod.

Their mentors, the award-winning choir Only Men Aloud, have done their utmost to lick the boys into shape for their debut in front of the crowds at the 3,500-seater pink pavilion in Ebbw Vale. But will the 140 boys, who hail from across the south Wales valleys, be ready for their big night? The final programme of Only Boys Aloud (Monday, August 2, BBC Two Wales) follows the boys as they put the final touches to their act, take on any last minute advice and get ready to take the stage. Will they pull off the biggest night of their lives?

Their debut concert, which also features Only Men Aloud returning to their valleys roots to celebrate their tenth birthday, can be heard on BBC Radio Wales on Sunday, August 1, at 8pm.
