National Museum Cardiff once again hosts the most prestigious competition of its kind and the international leader in the artistic representation of the natural world, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 29 March to 22 June 2014 in the natural history galleries within National Museum Cardiff.
Co-owned by the Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide the prestigious annual competition is full of visually stunning and often thought-provoking images which provide an insight into the beauty, drama and variety of nature.
The much coveted title of Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 was awarded to photographer Greg du Toit from South Africa for Essence of Elephants, his image of African elephants in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve in Botswana.
14-year-old Udayan Rao Pawar from India scooped the top prize in the youth category, his picture Mother’s little headful captured while camping near a nesting colony of gharials on the banks of the Chambal river.
Selected from more than 43,000 entries from amateurs and professional photographers from 96 countries, the images were judged to be the best of all those entered in the 2013 competition by an international judging panel that included some of the world’s most respected nature photographers and wildlife experts.
