William Powell AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat for Mid and West Wales, has today called on the Minister for Local Government, to show her support for Dyfed-Powys Police’s Bobby Van service which is due to be reviewed, as part of a retendering exercise.

The Bobby Van service visits homes of those who have suffered burglary or harassment across the region throughout the year. It fits locks, alarms and door chains, in a bid to stamp out crime and the fear of crime in the community, and provide reassurance to vulnerable residents.

William Powell AM said:

“I have been reassured by Dyfed-Powys Police that they do not intend to scrap the popular Bobby Van service but are rather re-tendering its delivery.

“Given this I have today called on the Minister for Local Government – who is responsible for liaison with Welsh police forces– to join me in calling upon the Dyfed Powys Police to ensure that the functions provided by the Bobby Van service are not diminished during this tendering process, given the contribution it makes to fostering community safety.

“It was disappointing that the Minister refused to join me in this call.”
