Cwmaman Infants have joined in the fight against litter and dog fouling as two lucky pupils scoop first prize for their poster designs.
In a bid to highlight environmental issues and the consequences that dog fouling can have in a local community the Streetcare Enforcement team tasked the school with designing posters that could be made in to signs to make eco-offenders think twice.
The children were asked to design the special posters to highlight the importance of placing litter and dog waste in to the bins provided. The winning signs are then printed and displayed in their local area.
After much deliberation by the Streetcare enforcement team, two lucky winners were chosen and the winning pupils were Travis Hawkins and Ocean Cole who can now see their artwork displayed around Cwmaman.
Councillor Anthony Christopher, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Front Line Services, said: “
“It is encouraging to see how many children are being inspired by Rhys Cycle and our Streetcare Team who visit various schools on almost a weekly basis and also take part in many events throughout the County Borough.
“It is hoped that when residents see the new, winning signs created by Travis and Ocean, they will think twice about littering or allowing their dog to foul in the street.
“Rhondda Cynon Taf is pioneering in its approach to waste management and thanks to initiatives such as Rhys Cycle we can not only ensure that future generations will recycle waste, but they will also encourage the adults at home to do the same.”
Everyone in Rhondda Cynon Taf can do their bit and be green, by recycling from home through the Council’s kerbside recycling and food waste schemes. Recycling bags can be obtained free from your collection crew or by calling 01443 494700. You can also pick them up from libraries, Communities First offices or the Council’s One4All centres or alternatively leave a sticker/note on your bags requesting more before you run out.
