Winter ‘spring clean’ in Risca

RiscaPupils from Risca Comprehensive and Risca Primary Schools have been working hard to improve their local environment during a two day clean-up campaign.

Caerphilly county borough council’s Fast Forward and ‘Tidy Towns – Tidy Places’ teams worked with the local community to plant thousands of native species of bulbs in an unsightly area of waste ground and collected more than 30 bags of litter on the tract between Holly Road and Elm Drive on the Ty Sign estate.

Local councillors were also in attendance and thanked everyone for braving the elements and helping to create a more attractive place for local residents and walkers.

CCBC cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Lyn Ackerman, said, “This is part of a new council initiative to generate pride in our environment and the efforts of the schoolchildren from Risca demonstrates that our future generations do care about their area.

This event is one of many happening across the County Borough over the winter – all with the aim of improving the appearance of our local communities”.
