Steve Thomas, Chief Executive of the Welsh Local Government Association has received his CBE award from the Queen at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace.

Steve was honoured by the Queen in  recognition of his services for local government in Wales.

Steve Thomas said:

“I am hugely honoured to receive this award. During my time  as chief Executive of the WLGA I have received outstanding support from my colleagues across the entire local government family in Wales. This honour is recognition of everyone’s shared commitment to working with the WLGA to improve public services in Wales and put party-politics aside to deliver what is best for the people of Wales.”

Speaking of the award, Cllr John Davies (Pembrokeshire), WLGA Leader added:

“Both professionally and personally, I congratulate Steve on his well-deserved CBE award. Steve’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the Association into the most effective political lobbying body in Wales. Over the last 5 years he has worked tirelessly on behalf of the local government family and continues to play a vital role in ensuring that local government’s voice is heard loud and clear both within the Welsh Assembly Government and at a UK level. His energy, commitment and indeed his successes on behalf of local government have drawn respect from all tiers of local government in Wales and the wider public sector. As local government enters into its most difficult financial period in over 50 years, Steve’s role as the ambassador and united voice for local government in Wales will be invaluable.”
