Wrexham Residents Urged to Nominate their Grassroots Footballing Heroes

FAWNominations are now open for the FA Wales Community Awards and local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths is encouraging people in Wrexham to nominate their unsung heroes and football clubs.

Presented by McDonald’s, the Awards recognise and reward the people and volunteers who make a real difference to grassroots football in their local community.

People are encouraged to nominate either an outstanding individual or club for a variety of different award categories, ranging from Player of the Year to Community Coach of the Year.

Nominations opened on February 3 and close 26 May 2014.

McDonalds has been the Community Partner of the four national Football associations for 11 years and in that time the company has helped train and recruit more than 25,000 coaches across the UK.

Assembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths said:

“Last year I attended a grassroots football reception and thanks to the generosity of McDonald’s, I was able to offer free football equipment to every club in the Wrexham constituency.”

“After visiting all the clubs and meeting various representatives, it was clear to see all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, with volunteers often giving up their free time so children and young people can enjoy playing football in a safe, friendly environment.”

“Although none of the coaches or volunteers involved with grassroots football seek recognition and awards, I believe it is important we celebrate their contribution to the community and remind them all their hard work and dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.”

“You can nominate your unsung heroes by visiting www.mcdonalds.co.uk/awards.”
