A Scout group managed plenty of window shopping as they completed their Sport Relief Mile.
Members of the 1st Rhosnesni Scout troupe chose to complete their fundraising quest by completing four circuits of the Eagles Meadow shopping centre, in Wrexham.
Scout Leader Terry Bonner says 20 Scouts took up the challenge and raised more than £340 in the process.
He said: “We decided Eagles Meadow was the ideal, and safest place, to complete our Sport Relief Mile. The youngsters all wore something red and white, the Sport Relief colours, and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
“We measured the distance and basically four circuits of the shopping centre, starting and finishing at the water feature, is a mile.
“Visitors to Eagles Meadow were very generous and help the Scouts add to their fundraising total buy donating loose change.”
Terry added: “We were very grateful to the management of Eagles Meadow for allowing us to complete the Sport Relief event within the shopping centre.
“The security staff were really good and kept an eye on everything to ensure the safety of the Scouts who took part while the management of tenpin supplied trays of juice for everyone taking part.”
And according to Terry completing the Sport Relief Mile fits nicely into the Scouting philosophy of helping others as well as enjoying outside activities.
He said: “Scouting is all about doing things outside in the fresh air. Of course things have changed over the years, at one time it was all about map reading and bush craft.
“Now of course we have GPS systems and modern technology but it is still about getting out and about and learning new skills. The 1st Rhosnesni Scout Group now has a membership of more than 30 and continues to grow.
“In truth Scouting remains as popular as ever among young people and I would encourage any young person aged 10 or over to get in touch and get involved.”
