The Eisteddfod is definitely on its way to Wrexham, as the distinctive Pink Pavilion was hoisted into place today on Lower Berse Farm off Ruthin Road. The Wrexham skyline now boasts eight pink towers, and these will remain in place until after the end of the festival, which is held from 30 July – 6 August.
National Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Elfed Roberts, said, “There’s just over four weeks to go before the Eisteddfod opens its gates this year. Last held in Wrexham in 1977, the support and generosity of local people and volunteers has been tremendous over the past two years while we’ve been working locally.
“The erection of the Pink Pavilion – an iconic symbol of the culture of Wales – is a further sign that the preparations for the week are coming together well, and we’re all looking forward for a week to remember at the beginning of August this year.”
Organisers hope that the Eisteddfod – one of the world’s greatest cultural festivals – will bring up to 160,000 visitors to the Wrexham area over the nine day period. For more information, go to www.eisteddfod.org.uk or ring 0845 4090 400.
