Yacht rescued by Barry Dock Lifeboat

The mostly volunteer crew of the Barry Dock Lifeboat were called to rescue a yacht and its 2 man crew on Saturday 6 of March 2010.

The drama started when HM Coastguard launched the Barry Dock Lifeboat at 9.26pm.

The Barry Dock Lifeboat was tasked to a 33’ yacht, which had a rope around its propeller. The yacht was five and a half miles south of the Nash.

The Barry Dock Lifeboat under the command of the Coxswain, Hugh Davies, towed the yacht and the two persons, who were uninjured, to the Penarth marina. The Penarth Inshore Lifeboat were called to assist with the final part of the rescue into the Penarth Marina.

Gerry Adams, the volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said:

‘This is not unusual type of rescue. Any craft under power runs the risk of a fouled propeller at any time. Floating ropes are hard to see in the dark. The Barry Dock Lifeboat returned to station at 3am on the Sunday morning.’
