Young business brains delight contest judges

A team of young Swansea entrepreneurs is to compete in the UK final of a nationwide talent search.

The teenagers, all students at the city’s Daniel James Community School, will be bidding to take the Celtic Enterprises UK title.

They qualified for the event, in Plymouth, Devon from March 16-19 by excelling at the contest’s Welsh final at Carmarthenshire‘s National Botanic Garden of Wales.

Teacher Emma Dabrowska said: “We had two teams competing at Llanarthne and they both did exceptionally well. One had an idea for personalised key rings, the other for a new line in stationery sales.”

Josh Temple, a 15-year-old member of Key Rings R Us, said: “We thought it’d be a good idea to give everyone who has keys something memorable on their key rings.

“We made more than £50 and a judge at the Botanic Gardens said he was really impressed. We can’t wait for the final and hopefully we can win.”

The young entrepreneurs are studying towards their Btec first diploma in business, guided by the Daniel James business studies department.

The Celtic Enterprise project is run by Careers Wales West to build business skills, self-confidence and self-reliance.
Entrants wrote business plans, sold products in and out of school, kept accounts and wrote a business report.

Daniel James competition entrants included Josh Temple, Shannan Cuell, Ashleigh Sommers, Ashley Williams, Josh Williams, Josh Loosmore, Michael Dean, Chelsea Esmonde, Craig Davies, Raisa Kiley, Rebecca Stead and Jessica Dicks
