Young Dragons take challenge

On Saturday, May 8, 2010, Bryn Bach Park in Tredegar will host a day of activity as over 100 youngsters take part in a teen challenge as part of the launch of the Young Dragons in the area – an initiative first launched by the Prince of Wales last year.

Gwent Police, with the help of Communities First, Tredegar, have teamed up to launch the new Young Dragons to Blaenau Gwent and to provide the Blaenau Gwent Teen Challenge.

Blaenau Gwent Young Dragons, consist of all of the voluntary uniformed youth organisations which include: the Scouts, Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Guides, Boys Brigade, St Johns, the Fire service as well as the newly recruited Gwent Police voluntary cadets.

The all day event – which will be the first Blaenau Gwent Young Dragons teen challenge will see teams take part  in a number of challenges, including archery, lazer tag, raft race, climbing wall and football. Trophies will be awarded to the winning teams.

Blaenau Gwent Partnership Inspector Phillip Morris, says: “The main aim of this event is to raise awareness about the good work of our Young Dragons and the opportunities they provide.  These organisations require adult volunteers to increase the opportunities for our younger members in the community – so this is a chance for adults and young people to find out more about volunteering in Blaenau Gwent.

“Days like these are fun for everyone as well as building in a team spirit for adults and children. There will be something for everyone as well as an array of opportunities for those wishing to give something back to their local communities by volunteering!”

There will be a wide range of activities and attractions throughout the day for families – adults and children of all ages are encouraged to attend.
