Young people help to keep our area tidy with litter picks

Young people from across the Upper Rhymney Valley helped to make their communities even cleaner, greener and safer places to live by taking part in litter picks as part of ‘Tidy Wales Week’ recently.

Groundwork Officers, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Youth Workers and local young people collected a total of 30 bags of litter from the area throughout the week.

42 young people together with youth workers and Groundwork staff over the course of the week collected:

  • 3 bags of litter in Deri
  • 8 bags of litter in Fochriw
  • 10 bags of litter in Abertysswg
  • 4 bags of litter in Pontlottyn
  • 5 bags of litter in Bargoed

Cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Lyn Ackerman said, “I’m pleased that people from all ages got into the spirit of Keep Wales Tidy Week, by taking part in various schemes across the county borough.

I strongly believe that by encouraging people from a young age to take pride in their environment, we are helping to create a culture of pride and ownership in our streets, which will help us in the long term to make our area an even cleaner, greener place to live.”
