Youth Work Week in Wales 2010

Flintshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service are celebrating Youth Work Week this year with a number of events around the county.

Youth Work Week is an annual event that takes place in Wales from November 1 – 7.

Flintshire Youth Service works with young people between the ages of 11 and 25 by providing a wide range of activities in 33 youth clubs that meet on a weekly basis throughout the county.

Examples of the activities that have been taking place recently include sports, cooking, and art & craft activities at Saltney; a graffiti project, DJ mixing and kick boxing at Leeswood and Treuddyn; a healthy eating course at Gronant; a BMX project at Sealand; and a wildlife garden created at Holway. Life skills classes are also available to clubs.

To celebrate Youth Work Week, the Flintshire Youth Forum (FYF) will be taking to the road to showcase some of the work they do. The FYF meets on Mondays, at the Glanrafon Centre, Mold between 7pm and 9pm, and its aim is to give young people the confidence to tackle issues, voice opinions, whilst making friends and having fun. Young people are encouraged to join the FYF to ‘come together to make a difference’.

Flintshire County Council’s Youth Workers work with a number of other organisations and agencies in a variety of settings, helping with young people’s personal and social development. The Council also has specialist Youth Workers in a number of areas, including drugs and alcohol work, youth forum, healthy eating and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
