The Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl will launch a new Film Club on Tuesday 2 November at 7.30pm with the help of some well-dressed zombies.
Viewers are being invited to get in the Halloween spirit by dressing up as zombies to attending a screening of the 1978 horror classic ‘Dawn of the Dead’.
Written and directed by George A. Romero, ‘Dawn of the Dead’ is regarded as one of the best zombie movies of all time and is a direct follow-up to the seminal ‘Night Of The Living Dead’.
In the film, a pandemic of unknown origin has caused the dead to come back to life. As society breaks down, four survivors take refuge in a huge shopping mall complex. Sealed off from the horror outside, they distract themselves with the material goods that are piled high all around, until the arrival of a militant biker gang forces them to confront just what it means to be alive.
Starring David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger and Gaylen Ross and featuring special effects by the legendary Tom Savini, many viewers believe that ‘Dawn of the Dead’ is a first-rate satire of materialism and commercial excess, one which cleverly suggests that America is becoming a nation of mindless consumers where even the living dead are drawn to the mall – the place that was most important to them during their lives.
The Porthcawl Film Club happen to think that it is also a really good scream!
Tickets are prices at £4 and over-18s only will be admitted – for more details, call the Box Office on 01656 815995.
