All Black blanket unable to save day

The last remaining Principality Premiership fixture scheduled for the weekend has bowed to the inevitable with Sunday’s match between Principality Premiership league leaders Neath and Bedwas falling foul of the big freeze.

A pitch inspection at The Gnoll ruled out any prospect of play with the ground frozen solid and no thaw expected.

A Neath spokesman said, “Thanks to the hard work of our groundsman Stuart Williams, ably assisted by an army of volunteers in covering the pitch, we count ourselves very fortunate in having been able to play the last three games at The Gnoll.

“However, the sub-zero temperatures of the last few days have meant that this was a game too far and even the ‘All Black blanket’ could not save the Bedwas game.

“Having taken the maximum 15 points from our games against Llandovery, Aberavon and Pontypool, we were hoping to continue the action and the postponement will be a big disappointment to our supporters who have been excited by the rugby they have seen over the holiday period.”
