£1million savings from management shake-up

Caerphilly county borough council look set to achieve savings in the region of £1million over the next few years as a result of a senior management restructure.

The council’s cabinet has agreed a series of changes to management arrangements across the organisation that will help improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Cllr Allan Pritchard (pictured), Cabinet Member for Human Resources and Constitutional Affairs, welcomed the move. He said, “Our medium term financial plan sets out an ambitious programme of efficiencies over the coming years, but we also need to ensure that any impact on frontline services is kept to a minimum. The proposals agreed by cabinet will result in significant annual savings and a more streamlined management structure that will better serve the residents of the area.”

“This clearly demonstrates that our carefully planned strategy to steer the council through these troubled times is on track and we will continue to deal with any issues that arise without needing to take the type of drastic measures that we are seeing in some other local authorities,” added Cllr Pritchard.

The council’s new Chief Executive, Anthony O’Sullivan, is keen to work with his directors and the cabinet to drive forward a range of ambitious proposals to help ensure the authority is in a strong position to meet the challenges facing public services over the coming years.

Caerphilly is better placed than most thanks to our robust vacancy management policy and our ongoing strategies to reduce costs while protecting services,” said Anthony. “Although there will inevitably be tough times ahead, I’m confident we can rise to the challenge thanks to our dedicated workforce who continue to provide quality services and value for money to our local residents.”

Recent changes aimed at streamlining top management have resulted in the deletion of a Director’s post from the council’s top management tier as well as a shake up of Heads of Service and other senior posts.
