24 arrests during one-day operation in Caerphilly

A one-day operation in the Caerphilly County Borough resulted in 24 arrests for a number of offences.

Officers carried out search warrants in properties across the area to target criminal activity.

Officers from each of the Neighbourhood Policing Teams in Caerphilly, as well as the Neighbourhood Support Team, Response, Roads Policing, Dogs Unit and Armed Response took part in the operation.

During the day, numerous arrests were made including:

  • Nine arrests for court warrants, including non-payment of fines
  • Three arrests for burglary
  • Three arrests for theft
  • Three arrests for assault
  • Two arrests for possession of cannabis
  • One arrest for harassment
  • One arrest for breach of an ASBO
  • One arrest for drugs cultivation, possession with intent to supply and possession of a firearm
  • One arrest for criminal damage

Officers also seized £4500 cash and one jet-ski under the proceeds of crime act. 36 cannabis plants were also seized as well as small amounts of cannabis and amphetamines.

15 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for road traffic offences, such as driving whilst using a mobile phone and one vehicle was seized as a result of its dangerous condition.

Detective Sergeant Ian Bartholomew from the Neighbourhood Support Team said: “This latest one day operation forms part of our wider efforts to target criminal activity in the county borough. We are committed to targeting offenders and bringing them to justice, as well as looking at seizing any property that may have been funded with proceeds from crime.

“I would like to ask the community to continue to work with us and provide us with any information about criminals who may be operating in their area and undermining their quality of life.”

Superintendent Jon Burley, said: “The local community have been great in providing information and assisting us in targeting offenders who may be operating in the county borough. We had some good results from the day and we will continue to focus our efforts on preventing criminal activity and taking positive action against offenders.”
