St Joseph’s Catholic and Anglican High School in Wrexham has welcomed a new Chaplain after Reverend Mary Stallard was licensed in the role by the Bishop of St Asaph on Tuesday 6 September.
Mary will serve as Anglican chaplain at St Joseph’s – the only school in Wales to be joint venture between two Christian denominations.
On Tuesday morning pupils from Year 7 attended a special service in the school chapel to welcome Mary officially.
The Bishop of St Asaph, the Right Reverend Dr Gregory K Cameron handed over Mary’s licence before some of the pupils at St Joseph’s helped lead the prayers and the readings.
Commenting on the service, Mary said:
“It was great and I was really moved at the start to see so many friends here among the clergy.
“The school made a huge effort and the kids behaved superbly – I am over the moon to be here.”
Headteacher at St Joseph’s, Mrs Maria Rimmer also addressed the service and said afterwards:
“Today has been very special for the whole community here at St Joseph’s.
“It’s been a wonderful opportunity for the governors, staff and pupils to gather with Bishop Gregory, the clergy and the education officers from both the Anglican and Catholic Dioceses to witness this special ministry that Reverend Mary has started.”
