Celebration of Achievement

The annual Conwy Youth Service Celebration of Achievement event was held earlier this week at a packed Venue Cymru.

Over 225 young people gained accredited awards from Youth University, Agored and DofE.

Guest speakers praised the achievements of young people from Conwy, the skills gained by the young people and the time and commitment young people had given to volunteering.

The event rewarded each of the individuals for their hard work and commitment to a variety of areas from developing craft skills, to cooking or planning charity events, through to learning about the environment or becoming a youth volunteer.

Ian Gwilym, Operations Manager for DofE Wales, spoke of his pride in coming to Conwy to present Awards to individuals from across the County.

He also asked the audience to celebrate the special achievements of the staff and volunteers who support the DofE Award, such as Debbie Roberts of the Ranger Guides who has recently been awarded the MBE, and the staff and pupils of Ysgol John Bright who in the last 4 years have restarted the DofE programme at the school and this year celebrated over 70 Awards.

The event also provided an opportunity to highlight local Conwy winners of the High Sheriff Crime Beat Award.

The High Sheriff Crime Beat Award had recently been awarded to a joint Youth Work Project, involving Deganwy and Llandudno Youth Clubs and Craig y Don mobile youth club.  The young people had written, produced and created a drug awareness rap.
