A Real Christmas at Afan Forest Park

At this most wonderful time of the year, there is nothing better than the festive aroma of a real Christmas tree.

In Neath Port Talbot, Afan Forest Park will once again be selling a wonderful selection of real Christmas trees to the public. Trees will go on sale from the 1st December, daily from 10am to 4pm.

This year there will be three types of real Christmas trees available; Norway Spruce, Noble Fir and Nordeman Fir with prices to suit everyone ranging from £18 – £75. While visitors are looking around for their perfect tree they are also able to visit the cafe or do some Christmas shopping in the gift shop.

On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th, children and families can join traditional Christmas lantern making days with Eirlys Community Arts. Sessions are at 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

On Friday 10th December there will be a festive, astronomical tour of the heavens, “An Evening with the Stars”, weather permitting. Telescopes will be available but don’t forget to bring your binoculars!   Later in the evening will be an illustrated talk accompanied by hot soup and rolls at £3.50 per person.

Head Ranger, Afan Forest Park, Dick Wagstaff, commented, “We are looking forward to seeing children and families in the run-up to Christmas and helping them to choose their tree. We can also give advice on how to look after it the correctly to ensure it stays fresh throughout the Christmas holidays.

“After the Christmas celebrations trees can then be returned to the visitor centre car park. The car park staff will deal with then take delivery and store them. In the following two weeks they will be wood chipped and used in Forest Park either as a mulch around the apple trees in the orchard or on path repairs.”

This community event is organized by Afan Forest Park and Dark Sky Wales.

Advanced booking is required for Christmas lantern making. – Cost £3 per lantern.
