A Valentine to fine Welsh seafood

Chef Valentine Warner, presenter of the BBC2 series What to Eat Now, will host Pembrokeshire Fish Week 2010’s Fish and Shellfish Masterclass on June 30.

Valentine will be preparing and cooking a variety of seasonal fish and shellfish dishes with ingredients from the Welsh coast.

“The Fish and Shellfish Masterclass is one of Fish Week’s most popular events, and this year promises to be really exciting with Val at the helm,” said Kate Morgan, organiser of Fish Week and Food Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council.

She added: “Val is one of the most inspirational young chefs on television at the moment, and is well-known for his great recipes and passion for British, seasonal produce.”

Tickets are selling quickly for the Masterclass, which will be held at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven.  For tickets, contact the Torch Theatre Box Office on 01646 695267.

Val grew up on a farm in Dorset, learning to fish, shoot and cook from a young age. He spent seven years working with top chef Alastair Little and ran his own catering company, Green Pea, which he set up with the manager of the River Cafe, and catered for big names such as Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci.

He also spent a year fishing in Mexico and Central America, during which time he fell in love with Mexican cuisine.

Valentine has starred in two series of the BBC Two programme, What To Eat Now, in autumn 2008 and summer 2009. His second book, What To Eat Now More Please: Spring and Summer, was published in spring 2009.

He writes a monthly recipe feature for the BBC magazine Olive and also writes for other national publications.

Valentine’s Fish and Shellfish Masterclass will include tips on pairing wines to his dishes from Roy Roberts of Celtic Wines.

As part of South Hook’s Community Relations and Investment Programme, this event has been supported by South Hook and all profits will be donated to Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week 2010 has hundreds of other events, from cookery demonstrations and talks to family fun days, gourmet seafood evenings, outdoor adventure trips, seashore safaris, and much more.
