Junior Tories winners too

In order to help pupils to fully understand the election process, Years five and six at Stackpole VC School have run their own version of the General Election.

There were candidates from five political parties with Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Green Party all represented.

Candidates were selected, with each party forming a support group to work for them promoting their campaign. Manifestoes, leaflets, posters and badges were all prepared and each party delivered their manifesto to the rest of the school.

Polling booths and an official ballot box were used to make the experience more realistic.

Class teacher, Mrs Ishbel James said: “The pupils enjoyed preparing for our election while learning a lot about the democratic process in Britain. It has all been great fun.”

Votes were duly counted and the election winner was Alice Lilley for the Conservative Party. Political pundits believe her campaign for a school swimming pool may have swayed the voters.
