Acton refurbishment plans are revealed

Wrexham County Borough Council has unveiled plans for the approved refurbishment of Acton Community Centre.

The fully refurbished and extended Acton Resource Centre will be based at the existing community centre site on Overton Way with an estimated investment of over £800,000 from Wrexham Council and Acton Community Council.

The multi-purpose design of the building is aimed at meeting the diverse needs of the community and optimising the existing space for existing and new groups and organisations.

Once granted planning permission, it is envisioned construction work will commence at the centre in April 2012 with an estimated re-opening in March 2013.

The Leader of Wrexham Council Cllr Ron Davies said ‘I am personally delighted that the project plans now have the full backing of the local community. I hope that the first class facility, once completed will become a hub for the whole community to enjoy’.

Cllr Bob Dutton OBE, Lead Member for Communities and Performance said ‘This development continues the Council’s modernisation of local facilities to provide multi-purpose facilities catering for all sections of the community. Our experience of managing similar community resource centres will enable the successful implementation of this project’.

Cllr Geoff Lowe, local Councillor for Acton said ‘We have had resounding support from the Acton community, Acton Community Council and all of the other local Councillors. The Acton development is something we have wanted for considerable time and it is excellent that we can now see the plans begin to come to fruition’.

The proposed outline plans are currently on display in Acton Community Centre, Overton Way.
