Youngsters with additional support needs have been awarded bronze and silver awards as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
The eleven young people are all members of Conwy’s DofE Meddwl Project who completed a number of tasks and activities, such as carrying out voluntary work, developing new skills and taking part in the obligatory expedition.
The expedition was a 2-day challenge based at Crafnant, using Ty Cornell as a base for camping, cooking, walking, team games and exploring.
Jodie said, “I never thought I would be brave enough to camp outside but I did and I am really proud of myself.”
Faye agrees, she said “I didn’t really like walking before but it has been great fun all helping each other. The laugh we have had has made up for the rain.
For Joel it was other challenges that appealed, he said “I have really enjoyed the cooking we’ve done. It has given me opportunities to learn new skills which will help me be independent.”
The DofE Scheme gives young people new experiences, challenges and adventure. For the young people who are part of the Meddwl Project it also offered new skills and confidence.
Conwy Youth Worker, Matty Bowman said “We are very proud of their individual achievements and of their team work and support for each other.”
