Baglan Community Centre the best

A Neath Port Talbot community centre has scooped a top national award.

Baglan community centre in Port Talbot has won the ‘Overall Best Performer’ National Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) award for 2010 after competing against 90 others across the UK.

Also selected as a finalist for the ‘Overall Most Improved Performer was Cwmafan Community Centre.

The awards celebrate the best performers from local councils in frontline public services.

Community centres in Neath Port Talbot are run by the Council’s community development and projects section who are delighted to have been shortlisted for a top award for five years running and have won awards for the last four.

Welcoming the news, Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said, “Both centres had to compete against venues from all over the UK and it is a privilege to be recognised as a finalist and winner in this prestigious award ceremony.

“The Council’s 17 centres are at the heart of our communities. They deliver a first class service enabling residents of all ages to access community based facilities, to socialise and to have fun.

“They are well used by community groups and promote important issues like health and well being, active citizenship and lifelong learning.

“We are committed to delivering this high quality, cost effective service, recognised by this national award.”
