Bates: Natwest must reconsider service cuts in light of FSA report

Natwest must reconsider service cuts in Llanidloes, Montgomery and Llanfair Caereinion, in light of criticism by the Financial Services Authority over the poor way in which the UK’s main High Street banks deal with their customer complaints.

Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates comments:

“The report by the Financial Service Authority is strong support for concerns that the whole service that banks are providing and the way in which they consult with customers over proposed changes to the services offered is unacceptable.

“It is deplorable that after taking such huge sums of money from the taxpayer, many banks are failing to provide essential services for local people, failing to loan the money needed to stimulate our economy and now proposing cuts to service hours in rural areas such as Montgomeryshire.

“The FSA report is highly condemning and I believe that given the concerns raised, Natwest must reconsider the proposed service cuts in Llanidloes, Montgomery and Llanfair Caereinion and properly consult with customers over the proposed changes.”
