Modern apprentices celebrate success

Flintshire County Council employees who have successfully completed or are working towards their apprenticeships will be congratulated at an Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 4May at Clwyd Theatr Cymru.

The certificates will be presented to the apprentices by Flintshire County Council’s Chief Executive, Colin Everett and David Jones, Principal of Deeside College.

Each year a number of apprentices are recruited to work in council departments. They usually attend Deeside College on a day release basis over two to three years while they receive training and assessment in the work place. Apprenticeships give people of all ages the opportunity to gain qualifications whilst building their practical skills and experience at work.

Colin Everett said:

“Our Modern Apprenticeship programme is an excellent way for us to develop employees with the skills and experience needed. Modern Apprentices enjoy hands on experience, on the job training as well as gaining industry-recognised qualifications.”

David Jones the Principal of Deeside said:

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Flintshire County Council’s Modern Apprenticeship scheme. The awards ceremony is a great way to celebrate the success of those currently on the scheme and we look forward to welcoming new apprentices on to the programme this year”.

An open day will be held on Tuesday 15 June at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, Flint to give information to those wanting to join the scheme this year. Council staff will be available to answer any questions, explain the apprenticeship programmes and discuss the opportunities available for 2010.

Potential modern apprentices will be able to apply for various positions which include office skills such as business administration, information technology and trade skills such as building and plumbing.
