Beware of rogue traders

North Wales Police are reminding residents to be vigilant for rogue traders.

The warning comes after police have received information of workmen visiting homes in the Deganwy, Llandudno Junction and Glan Conwy areas.

“Rogue traders are targeting the elderly and vulnerable within our community,” said DC Ian Davies from Central CID.

“These people can be very persuasive in their sales pitches and the victims often feel obliged to take up their offers to complete unnecessary building repairs. It can start with something as simple as offering to replace roof tiles which will then progress to other work which is normally of a poor standard and vastly over priced.

“Recent information has come to light that workmen have been targeting the elderly around the Conwy area, and although police have not received official complaints, we are currently liaising with colleagues in Trading Standards to find out further information.”

He added: “It is important for families, friends and the community to work together to prevent this type of crime occurring. Anyone who feels that work needs to be carried out is advised to obtain at least three independent quotes and ask for recommendations from trusted sources.”

Anyone with concerns regarding rogue traders, or if anybody has been visited by suspicious workmen is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line), 0845 607 1002 (English line) or Crimestoppers Wales Cymru anonymously on 0800 555 111.
