Pupils’ posters help promote famous Races

Posters designed by pupils from a Mountain Ash primary school will help promote this year’s Nos Galan Races.

Young artists were challenged to design posters for the 2009 Nos Galan brochure – and artwork by Shannon Wills, aged 10, of Caegarw Primary School, Mountain Ash, was chosen as the winning design from dozens of entries.

Shannon received £50 for her school and will have her design printed on the back page of the brochure. Second prize went to Bethan Jenkins, aged eight, who won a framed print of her poster. Third prize went to Hannah Davies, aged nine, who also won a framed print of her poster.

The designs by the three Caegarw Primary pupils were selected by Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor, Cllr Robert Smith. All three posters will appear in the Nos Galan brochure. Members of the Nos Galan Committee, who organise the annual races, went along to Caegarw Primary to present the cheque and framed prints during assembly.

The annual 5km Nos Galan Races which take place in Mountain Ash every New Year’s Eve have competitions for elite runners and also for adults, boys and girls. Runners who want to take part in the races can register online at www.nosgalan.co.uk
