Bourne: Creation of a North Wales Minister

Welsh Conservatives have announced a commitment to appoint an Assembly Minister with responsibility for North Wales.

Making a keynote speech in Llandudno, the Party’s Leader in the Assembly pledged to give the region’s communities and businesses a far greater voice within the Assembly.

Speaking ahead of the event, Nick Bourne AM said: “North Wales deserves much more inclusion within what can too often be perceived as a ‘Cardiff Bay bubble’.

“We are well aware of the detachment some businesses and communities feel in the region and it’s time to bring that to an end.

“The views of the North Wales public are vastly important, yet are all too often ignored by Labour-Plaid decision makers. While Conservative North Wales Assembly Members work tirelessly for those they represent, the Assembly also needs a central Cabinet position that promotes greater inclusion for the region.

“We would create a dedicated Ministerial role that works closely with all other Ministers and government departments.

“The sole aim of the position would be making sure that the region is properly recognised and represented. The Minister would work to convey North Wales business and community messages to the Assembly and make sure that Cabinet work in Cardiff is properly conveyed to the North.

“This is a significant commitment for North Wales and is based on supporting, boosting and properly including everyone in the region.”
