Burglary, William Street, Swansea: Police Appeal

Police in Swansea are appealing for information following a burglary at the home of an elderly lady in the William Street area of the city.

The 77 year old female victim was at home alone when she answered a call to her front door. On answering the door, at about 8.30pm on Saturday 20th November   she was confronted by the two female suspects who pushed passed her and walked into the living room.

The taller of culprits ( suspect 1) demanded that that victim hand over her purse, whilst the other(suspect 2) forced the victim to sit in a chair and held her down whilst the other searched the living room.

The elderly victim, fearing for her safety agreed to hand over her purse; on being released she grabbed her walking stick and began to strike out at the thieves. She was overpowered and the stick removed from her.

The suspects located the purse and a quantity of cash was removed, both then left the property.

The incident has left the victim extremely upset and shaken

The suspects are described as follows;

  • Female, white, 18 – 20 years of age, slim build, fair hair, wearing a mid thigh length light coloured anorak with the hood up covering the face, together with a beige coloured scarf.
  • Female, white, big build, dark coloured hair, also wearing a mid thigh length coat, and a scarf covering her face.

Detective Inspector Peter Doyle from Swansea Central CID said “This was an extremely terrifying incident for this elderly lady, although she was unhurt it has left her badly shaken and very upset”

“The behaviour of these two women can only be described as callous and cowardly”

“William Street is in the heart of the Sandfields area, which has a very strong community spirit, and attacks such as this on elderly and vulnerable in their own homes will be taken very seriously.”

Mr Doyle added “I am appealing to the residents of William Street  and to anyone who was in the vicinity and might have seen these women, or has any information which would assist in identifying them to come forward,”
