Burns: Less support for graduates as NEETs rise

Commenting on new figures showing a rise in the number of 19-24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEETs) to 22.8%, the highest level since the Welsh Government began collecting data in 1999, Angela Burns AM, Shadow Minister for Education, said:

“It is deeply worrying that almost a quarter of 19-24 year olds are being denied the opportunity to exercise their talents in the world of work or study.

“Many of these 19-24 year olds will be graduates who have gone through the education system at great expense and are now missing out on the opportunity to use their skills to benefit our economy.

“Welsh Labour Ministers have been vocal in their desire for more young people to go to university, but regrettably, they are not following this through with support for graduates to find paid employment.”
