NSPCC calling on local businesses in Wales to take up their HACK hiking challenge

Do you fancy a real team challenge? The NSPCC is calling on local companies across Wales to play their part in ending child cruelty by entering a team in the NSPCC’s ‘HACK’ (Hike Against Cruelty to Kids) events in St Davids and the Llyn Peninsula.

The Llŷn Peninsula HACK is 24 miles and takes place on 10 September 2011. This route goes along some of the most stunning coastline in North Wales.  The rugged coastline of the Llŷn Peninsula is teeming with local wildlife and incorporates the Whistling Sands – which really do whistle!

The St Davids Peninsula HACK takes place on Saturday 17 September 2011, the route follows some of the most stunning coastline in Wales, along the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastal path.

There are two circular options along Wales’ most popular coastal destination.  A 12.5 mile walk which offers participants the chance to see Britain’s smallest city, St Davids, or a tougher 24 mile route which takes you further along the coast and across country, taking in the charms of the village of Solva.

The HACK will be a fabulous day out in the great outdoors and a valuable opportunity to support the NSPCC. Money raised will be used to support NSPCC projects and services in Wales, across the United Kingdom and Channel Islands.

Jo Leonard, community fundraising manager South Wales, said: “Why not use the HACK to take part in a team building challenge and encourage your colleagues and friends to take part? We are inviting companies across Wales to put in a team and register now for the HACK walking challenge.”

The HACK challenge can be great fun, but it is hard work . A 24 mile walk is a demanding physical challenge, and the NSPCC recommends people who register, undertake some training before hand.  Average walkers should complete the walk comfortably within 12 hours with more experienced walkers aiming to complete the walk within eight hours. There will be checkpoints and marshals on route, with radio contact between all checkpoints and the control centre.

The registration fee is £20 per person and the walk is for over 18s only. For further details, online registrations and payments, please log on to www.nspcc.org.uk/hack or contact the NSPCC Cymru/Wales fundraising team on  0203 188 3658 or email [email protected]. For those interested in getting involved in a slightly less physical capacity, there are also opportunities to volunteer as marshalls and stewards on the day.
