Campaigner doing the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise awareness of disability hate crime

Simon Green will be doing the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 16th October 2011 to raise awareness of disability hate crime, and to encourage others who have experienced other hate crimes to report it!

“When I was told I could never walk unaided again I knew my life would change.  I never thought that having to use a wheelchair would result in hostility and aggression.  I never thought that being disabled would lead to people verbally abusing me, mocking me and being physically assaulted”

Simon has chosen to raise funds for the Report Hate project at Safer Wales.

Hate crime across Wales is under reported.  Many thousands of people experience verbal abuse and physical attack daily, because of who they are.

Safer Wales has a hate crime reporting system where anyone who is harassed because of differences, can report their incident through a third party reporting system.  The system has been running for over two years and reports of hate crime are on the increase.

“More people across Wales are now using our reporting system.  Many people who experience hate crime do not wish to share information, or do not know where to go, and sadly some people just accept it.  This is why individuals like Simon really do make a difference, and hopefully inspire others not to put up with hate crime, which has no place in our society” Mark Williams. Anti Hate Crime Project Manager, Safer Wales

Simon’s message has reached many people who will now feel more confident to report hate crime. Please support any donation large or small www.justgiving.com/Simon-Green10   or text EIDQ 61to 70070.
