Caravanwatch: Don’t let them watch your TV

The local Neighbourhood Policing team in Towyn and Kinmel Bay has been helping caravan owners protect their property over the winter months by issuing some top safety advice.

PC Steve Thomas is part of the Towyn and Kinmel Bay policing team who have launched a multi-strand campaign aimed at combating theft from caravans during the closed season.

One of the most important strands to the campaign is to encourage caravan owners to remove all valuable items from their caravans. Once valuable items have been taken out, the local officers are encouraging the owners to display posters saying just that!

“One of the items most frequently stolen is a television set – this is what normally attracts the attention of a thief,” said PC Thomas. “Remove the television set from the van and the temptation is removed.”

He added: “Once the items are removed, then owners are encouraged to advertise the fact by displaying one of the NWP Towyn and Kinmel Bay Caravan watch “Valuables removed” posters. This will tell would be thieves that there is simply no point in braking in.”

Another top tip being given is to open the curtains and leave them open so that individuals can see that there is nothing inside to take.
