Celebrating International Women’s Day with art

Eight women artists from across north Wales are exhibiting together in celebration of International Women’s Day 2012. The exhibition will be held from 3 February until 17 March 2012 at Pendeitsh Gallery in Caernarfon.

International Women’s Day, held annually on 8 March, is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. As part of the day, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements each year.

Delyth Gordon, Gwynedd Council’s Visual Art Officer said: “We are very pleased to host this group exhibition and support these artists in their celebration of this International Day. It’s good to see north Wales being linked to global events of this nature.”

This exhibition brings together eight artists from across north Wales, celebrating their creative achievements and as part of a wider collaboration with the Women’s Art Association in Wales.

Local photographer Vivienne Rickman-Poole from Llanberis has led the group of eight artists to create this unique exhibition. Her work has been described as an eclectic mix taking inspiration from visual references she makes in day to day life.

Also participating are artist and printmaker Eleri Jones whose greatest inspiration remains her family, upbringing and home. Ewa Bloniarz, a Polish born photographer living and working in Wales, who is fascinated by shapes, textures, light and forms. Wendy Leah Dawson is a jewellery / metal artist whose work is inspired by antiquity, mechanisms and invention. Nerys Jones whose current work combines various textile techniques.

Silversmith Miranda Meilleur creates vessels, spoons and sculptural pieces. Chloe Needham works primarily with watercolor and paper cutting with themes both personal and universal. Annwen Burgess’ current collection of paintings and drawings draws on family life and those little everyday objects.
