Children’s art to be showcased on Stagecoach buses

School children in Caerphilly have cause for celebration after hearing the news that their artwork will be displayed on local Stagecoach in South Wales buses.

Pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili recently took part in a Stagecoach led ‘What does Green mean to you” competition.

The ‘What does Green mean to you’ competition invited pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili to draw a picture about something they thought captured the essence of the Green message.

Catrin James was the winner of the 8 -11 year old category with her fantastic painting, using the outline of Wales to help convey her message. Jacob Sturgess won the younger category with a brilliant painting entitled “I love Mother Nature.”

Final results were: –

8 – 11 year olds

  • 1st: Catrin James
  • 2nd: Lara Williams
  • Joint 3rd: William & Owen Jones and Gwenllian Gwynn

4 – 7 year olds

  • 1st: Jacob Sturgess
  • 2nd: Gwenllian Davies
  • 3rd: Ben Williams

John Gould, Managing Director of Stagecoach in South Wales, said: “We were so impressed with the entries that we wanted to share the winning ones with the entire community – and what better way than on our buses in Caerphilly? I’m sure that everyone who travels on our services in Caerphilly will agree that this is a great way of brightening up our buses. Perhaps it will also get other passengers thinking about “what Green means to them too.”

Mr Lynn Griffiths, Headteacher at Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili said: “We feel very proud as a school to have been given the opportunity of working so closely with Stagecoach on this exciting project. Our children are keen to maintain their knowledge of environmental issues and thereby maintain our Green Flag status. We look forward to seeing the designs which have a clear and powerful environmental message emblazoned on the insides of Stagecoach buses throughout Caerphilly.”

Stagecoach in South Wales and Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili would like to thank Caerphilly County Borough Council and in particular Susan Davies for their help and support with this project.
