Council to entice Xmas shoppers into local shops

In a move to support local retailers, Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet is to decide whether to provide free parking on the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas.  Cabinet, which meets on Wednesday 1st December will discuss a recommendation that all car parking charges in council car parks in Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow be waived on 4th, 11th and 18th December.

The Cabinet Member for Finance and Performance Improvement, Councillor Phil Murphy said: “Providing free car parking for the three Saturdays before Christmas throughout Monmouthshire will reduce car park income by approximately £17,000.  But this will more than be offset by the benefits to local business.  We are pleased to offer an incentive for local shoppers to make the most of the county’s main retail centres and their exceptional choice and value.”
