Council worker shortlisted for top award

A Neath Port Talbot Council officer is hoping to build on her success as a Construction Ambassador by scooping a national award.

Carla Dix has been shortlisted by ConstructionSkills Wales for the Construction Ambassador of the Year award 2010.

She is one of the finalists in Wales to have been nominated for the award, which recognises companies and individuals who have made a major contribution to the Welsh construction industry.

Carla was nominated by her manager in the Housing Renewal and Adaptation Service, Mike Howard.

He said: “Carla has tackled the Construction Ambassador’s high profile projects with enthusiasm and pride. She has brought the diverse opportunities of a career in construction to the forefront by arranging events which have attracted positive media attention.”

Neath Port Talbot Council leader Ali Thomas is delighted Carla has been recognised by ConstructionSkills Wales.

“The activities arranged by the Construction Ambassadors provide educational opportunities for young people and promote diversity within an industry by encouraging more people from different ethnic backgrounds and genders to consider a career in the industry,” he said. “They also help contribute to our highly-skilled workforce in Neath Port Talbot.”

“I wish Carla good luck for the awards ceremony at the Skills Competition Wales 2010 Final.”

Carla will discover whether or not she has won the award at a ceremony being held at the Construction Academy, Bridgend on Thursday, March 18th.
