Councils repeat national illegal vodka warning

Food, health and safety officers in Denbighshire and Conwy are alerting retailers in both counties about a national warning from the Food Standards Agency about illicit ‘Drop Vodka’.

The Agency reports that a number of bottles of illicit Drop Vodka have been found on sale in parts of the UK. The product in question does not contain enough alcohol to be called vodka, there are a number of labelling issues and  products sampled by local authorities have identified some substances which can be potentially damaging to health.

The bottles hold 70cl of alcohol and are said to have been bottled in Italy or France.

The main distinctive marks are:

  • The Duty stamp does not flouresce under UV light
  • The duty reference on the illicit bottles A000000000618 belongs to Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd. Drop Vodka is NOT a Glen Catrine product.
  • The bar code 0123456789 is not a valid bar code.
  • No manufacturers name and address on the label.
  • Front and rear labels are self-adhesive
  • Punt mark on the bottles show bottles made by ‘Ol glassware’
  • The general print quality of the labels is poor.

The food, health and safety teams in both counties are contacting all convenience stores, off licences, and pubs with details of the food alert and a photo of the contaminated vodka.

If you have any enquiries, please contact the team at Denbighshire County Council on 01824 706405 or Conwy County Borough Council, on 01492 575283.
