“Bags for life’ provide new start for 50”

Safer Wales has received a donation of £500 to purchase 50 ‘Bags for Life’ filled with a selection of personal health, hygiene and safety starter items.

Safer Wales an independent charity received the donation from J Sainsbury Plc to celebrate the opening of the new Sainsbury’s store in Cardiff Bay.

“We are delighted with this kind donation. The bags will be given to the people we support who may become unintentionally homeless through various circumstances, including domestic abuse and women and young people who have been sexually exploited. It will provide them with everyday items, that many of us take for granted” Barbara Natasegara, Chief Executive, Safer Wales

The bags will include toothpaste, towels, personal attack alarms, soap and other hygiene and safety items.

The Safer Wales Streetlife project works with almost 100 women and young people who are sexually exploited in the Cardiff area per year. The Women’s Safety Unit and the Dyn Project work with over 450 women and men per year who are high risk victims of domestic abuse to help them remain safe and live a fear free life.

“After working with a young woman for a number of years she eventually rebuilt her life, and was entering permanent accommodation for the first time.   I managed to scrape together a few everyday items from staff, family and friends and the woman broke down in tears that people actually thought of these things for her”  Safer Wales Streetlife Worker
