Crackdown on under age drinking

Police will be cracking down on under age drinking at this weekends Wakestock music festival, near Abersoch.

As North Wales Police launch a campaign to tackle alcohol related crime, Superintendent Mark Owen, based in Caernarfon, said that they were determined to clampdown on young people being served alcohol.

He said that in partnership with Gwynedd Council, the Welsh Ambulance and the organisers they would be making test purchases of alcohol and asked traders and young people to be aware.

“Last year a lot of young people were very ill after consuming alcohol and most of the cases dealt with by the ambulance service were alcohol related.

“We just want people to come and have a good time and enjoy the event but at the same time to stay safe,” he said.

Superintendent Owen also asked people not to leave valuables on show in their vehicles and make sure their cars are locked.
