David inspires the children at Tŷ Hafan

Eleven times Paralympic swimming gold medallist David Roberts paid a visit to Tŷ Hafan recently when some the children and young people found themselves trying on an actual gold medal.

The swimmer, originally from Pontypridd is currently recovering from post injury surgery but is anxious to get back into full training working towards London 2012 where he hopes to beat the gold medal record of another famous sportsperson, Tanni Gray-Thompson.

After a tour around the hospice David spent time with some of the young people who benefit, along with their families, from the care and support of the hospice, both during short stays and within the family home.

“After recently attending the Tŷ Hafan Sporting Lunch in Cardiff I became very aware of the incredible work that the charity carries out with life-limited children and their families from across Wales” commented David.

“It was a real privilege to be able to meet some of the children and staff and, if only for a short time, be part of something so special.  It was a very humbling experience”.
